June in Greece means warm days, warm sea and long golden evenings. On the islands, highs sit around 28°C (82°F) and the sea is lovely for swimming every day. Rain is rare.
Here is what to pack for Greece in June, from someone who has spent her summers there since she was small. It is written for a week on a quiet island like Kea, where my mom and I host our Mother Daughter Retreat in Greece, and it works for most of the Greek islands.
Pack light
You will carry your bag onto the ferry and along stone lanes, so a medium suitcase or a large carry on is perfect for a week. Linen and cotton dry fast and roll small.
Clothes
4 or 5 light dresses or loose sets in linen or cotton
2 pairs of shorts and 1 pair of light trousers
4 or 5 tops and tanks
1 light sweater or wrap for evening breezes and the ferry deck
1 beach cover up that also works for lunch
Sleepwear and underwear for the week
Greek dinners are relaxed and elegant. A pretty dress and sandals are all you need.
For a visit to a monastery or a small chapel, bring something that covers your shoulders and knees. A light scarf is perfect.
Swim
2 or 3 swimsuits, so one is always dry
A sarong or light beach blanket
A wide brimmed hat
Sunglasses
Water shoes for swimming from the rocks
Shoes
Flat sandals with good grip for stone steps and village lanes like Ioulida on Kea
Comfortable walking shoes for hikes
One pair of pretty sandals for dinner
Sun
The June sun in Greece is strong, with close to 15 hours of daylight.
Reef safe sunscreen
SPF lip balm
After sun or aloe
A refillable water bottle
Practical things
Passport and a copy on your phone
Ferry tickets saved on your phone. Most companies offer online check in.
A plug adapter. Greece uses the two round pin plugs common in Europe, types C and F.
Some cash in euros for tavernas, kiosks and tips
A power bank for travel days
Any medicine you take, in your carry on
A small dry bag for boat days
Small things that make the week
A light layer for breezy boat days
An eye mask, because the morning light comes early
A book you have been saving
A notebook to remember the little moments
Keep it simple
Bring just the basics for hair and makeup. The sea air and the sun do beautiful work on their own.
